At Dulacca State School we embody the school motto, 'Onwards and Upwards' with the belief that every student, each day, can experience educational success, and personal growth and development.  Our vision is to engage and empower students to be life-long learners through access to personalised, progressive and challenging learning experiences.

We aim to embed a school culture that values the contribution and experiences of students, staff, parents and the community to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. We believe student are holistic beings and aspire to develop not only their knowledge and skills but also their social and emotional wellbeing.

Our school is committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment for students and staff, where staff have the opportunity to teach and students have opportunities to engage in quality learning experiences and acquire values supportive of their lifelong wellbeing.

Our Student Code of Conduct (PDF, 5MB) is designed to facilitate high standards of behaviour for learning and teaching in our school to be effective and students to participate positively in our school community. The school actively promotes the 'We all have the responsibilities of being a learner, being respectful and being safe'. Staff, students and parents work collaboratively to create a supportive and inclusive school environment for all. Expectations and leadership for each value are explicitly taught. We recognise and celebrate students demonstrating these values.

The plan has been developed in consultation with staff, students and parents. It has been approved by the Dulacca P&C. View a copy through below quick links or contact the school for a copy.

Uniform

We encourage our students to wear school uniform everyday. The school has a set uniform in the school colours – navy/sky/white which can be purchased through the Flexischool App or you can contact the school office.
Kindy children are provided with 1 free orange shirt and hat. All additional shirts and jumpers cans be purchased through the Flexischool App.

Absences

Every day missed is a missed opportunity to learn, review and practice and can cause disadvantage in a child learning journey. This is why schooling is compulsory in Queensland for students until the age of 16. The school is obliged to investigate unexplained absences. When a child has been or will be absent, parents are required to contact the school and provide a reason for their child's absence. This can be done by:

  • text

  • email

  • phone call

  • written note

Medication

Students requiring medication to be administered by a staff member need a completed medical form (DOCX, 108KB) signed by the parent / guardian (alternatively contact the school for a copy). All medication to be administered by staff will be actioned at the administration office. A register of medication is maintained.

In schools, self-administration may apply to students who are assessed by their medical practitioner and parents/caregivers and approved by the Principal as capable of administering their own medication while participating in school activities. Self-administration of medication may include:

  • monitoring blood sugar levels and the injection of insulin for diabetes
  • inhaling medication such as "Ventolin" for asthma
  • orally administering anti-convulsing medication for epilepsy
  • orally administering enzyme replacements for cystic fibrosis

Students approved to carry their own medication should demonstrate practices of secure storage of medication that may be potentially harmful to other students and safe disposal of injecting equipment.

Mobile Devices

We value and understand the role of technology has in the educational experience. However, the use of mobile phones and smart watches can be disruptive to the learning environment of all students. Dulacca State School has adopted this policy to ensure that the rights of all students and staff are respected as well as ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.

Mobile phones and smart watches are used at their owner's risk. In the event of the loss, theft or damage of any device, the school will accept no liability unless it can be established that the loss, theft or damage resulted from the department's negligence. We would like student to hand their phones into the office when they arrive at school in a labelled Ziploc bag and collect them after school.

There are times when it is genuinely appropriate and beneficial for students to have access to a mobile devices. This is to be decided by the student and their parent or caregiver. Students may need to contact parents in emergencies or to confirm collection details for after school. However, except in times of genuine emergency and in consultation with school staff, mobile phone use is not acceptable at Dulacca State School at any time while students are inside the school gate.

If mobile phones and smart watches are brought to school, they are the responsibility of the student.

Students are encouraged to hand their phones and watches into the office each day in a labelled Ziploc bag.

Students must have their mobile phones and smart watches switched off and out of sight during class time.

Mobile phones and smart watches are not to be used in any manner or place that is disruptive to the normal routine of the school. Confiscated devices will need to be retrieved by the parent in person from the office.

Students are not to use mobile phones and smart watches to contact parents in a way, which would circumvent normal school procedures.

In-phone cameras are not to be used anywhere by students while inside the school gate. Nor are students to photograph or film others without their consent.

Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against any student who breaches any of these expectations.

This policy also applies to students during school excursions, camps and extra-curricular activities. Students wishing to use their mobiles in special circumstances should negotiate arrangements with the relevant school staff prior to departure of the activity.
